What is the Warwick Round?

The Warwick Round is one of the well-established Archery GB Imperial rounds, offering a well-balanced challenge across two distances.

Simple in structure but rewarding in execution, the Warwick is a firm favourite for both developing and experienced archers.

 

Format of the Warwick Round

A Warwick Round consists of:

  • 4 dozen arrows (48 arrows total)
  • 2 dozen (24 arrows) at the longer distance
  • 2 dozen (24 arrows) at the shorter distance

All shooting is conducted on a 122-cm target face using traditional Imperial scoring.

Shooting Format

  • Arrows are shot in ends of 6
  • Each distance consists of 4 ends (24 arrows)
  • Shooting begins at the longest distance

Sighters

  • One end of 6 sighter arrows is allowed at the first distance only
  • No sighters are taken at the second distance

Target and Scoring

The Warwick Round uses Imperial 5-zone scoring:

  • Gold: 9
  • Red: 7
  • Blue: 5
  • Black: 3
  • White: 1

The maximum possible score is 432 (48 arrows × 9).

Purpose and Use

The Warwick Round is particularly valued because it:

  • Can be completed in a shorter time than longer rounds
  • Introduces archers to shooting two distances
  • Provides a structured but accessible competitive format

It is commonly used for club competitions, beginner progression, and shorter outdoor shooting sessions.

Classification and Handicaps

Warwick rounds are recognised as Archery GB rounds and may be used for handicap purposes. They can also be used to classify scores based on the category and shooting conditions.

The Competition will be handicap-based, with the best four scores over six months counting towards the overall result.

New members: To achieve your handicap, you must submit three Archery GB-recognised round scores. Please note that 252 scores do not qualify.

Warwick 2 doz @ 60 yds, 2 doz @ 50 yds
Warwick 50 2 doz @ 50 yds, 2 doz @ 40 yds
Warwick 40 2 doz @ 40 yds, 2 doz @ 30 yds
Warwick 30 2 doz @ 30 yds, 2 doz @ 20 yds

trophy and a financial award will go to the top archer in each round.

If an archer wins more than one category, they will be awarded the title at the longest distance, with second place being promoted in the remaining category/categories.

Submit your scores in the usual way, preferably directly into Golden Records.
