Bowmen of Danesfield Celebrate Annual Christmas Meal and Awards Evening

The Bowmen of Danesfield came together for their annual Christmas Meal and Awards Evening at the Windmill Inn, West Quantoxhead, and what a night it was!

As members arrived, they were greeted with a welcome drink, and the room quickly filled with laughter, chatter, and the unmistakable buzz of a club enjoying each other’s company. Conversations were lively, and the evening was off to a fantastic start.

Once everyone was seated, our Chair, Kevin, opened proceedings with a short, heartfelt introduction. A highlight followed as Sarah was presented with a large, beautiful bouquet of flowers in recognition of her incredible contribution to the club. Her surprise and emotion were truly touching.

Adding an extra layer of fun, a table quiz was handed out, to be tackled throughout the evening. Brains were engaged, debates began, and a friendly competitive spirit emerged at every table.

First Awards Presentation

After the starters arrived, Steve, our Records Officer, presented the first set of awards:

  • Most Improved Archer Indoors – Recurve: Kevin King, Barebow: Graham Pugsley, Longbow: Rob Alexander
  • Most Improved Archer Outdoors – Recurve: Mark Amey, Barebow: Nick Heckscher, Longbow: Andy Izard

The applause was still echoing when the main course arrived – a generous and thoroughly enjoyable Christmas fayre that delighted everyone.

Top Archers Awards

Before dessert, the next round of awards celebrated our Top Archers:

  • Indoors – Recurve: Kevin King, Barebow: Graham Pugsley, Longbow: Courteney Welsh
  • Outdoors – Recurve: Steve Robertson, Barebow: Philip Churchill, Longbow: Andy Izard

Then came dessert – an impressive selection that left everyone spoiled for choice.

Record Breakers & Table Quiz Winners

After dessert, Steve presented the final awards:

  • Top Record Breakers – Recurve: Sarah-Louise Darwin, Barebow: Philip Churchill, Longbow: Finley Frith

Finally, it was time to reveal the answers to the table quiz. After some good-natured confusion over scores, the winners were announced: Pete Offin and Roland Dunkley, along with their partners, took the honours.

A huge thank you goes to James, Joel and the wonderful team at the Windmill Inn for serving us so well and delivering an outstanding meal from start to finish.

It was a truly fantastic evening, with many members commenting on just how enjoyable it was. Unsurprisingly, the club has already booked for next year!
