Do I need my own equipment to join?

No, you don’t need to purchase any equipment before joining or for a while afterwards.
We provide all the necessary bows, arrows, and safety gear during your induction and beginners’ sessions. This ensures that you’re using the correct size and type of equipment while you learn. Once you’ve gained some experience using our equipment and feel confident, we can offer guidance on what to buy if you wish to invest in your own gear.

I’ve done archery before — do I still need the induction?

That depends on your experience level and recent practice.
If you’ve completed a recognised Archery GB beginners course or were a member of another club, we’ll usually ask for proof (e.g., a certificate or membership number). We may also ask you to come in for an informal assessment to ensure you’re safe and confident on the shooting line before you participate in club sessions.

Is archery safe for children?

Yes — when supervised and delivered by experienced archers and coaches, archery is extremely safe.
We welcome juniors from eight years old, and safety is our top priority. All our sessions follow strict Archery GB safety protocols. Young persons under 18 must have a parent or guardian present at all times and must complete the junior consent form. We maintain a positive, supportive, and well-supervised environment for young archers.

What happens after I submit the membership form?

Once we receive your form, we’ll contact you to arrange your induction course.
We’ll go through your details, answer any final questions you may have, and give you information about the upcoming sessions. Once you have completed the course which usually runs over five consecutive Wednesdays, you’ll receive beginners certificate and you can then come along to as many sessions as you wish.

What do I wear to an archery session?

Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes are essential.
Avoid baggy sleeves, scarves, or anything that could catch the bowstring. Long hair should be tied back, and jewellery or accessories that could interfere with shooting should be removed. We shoot indoors and outdoors, so dress appropriately for the weather and always bring a bottle of water.

Are there competitions for novices?

Yes — we encourage new members to participate in friendly competitions.
Our Virtual Archery League is open to all members and is a great, low-pressure way to build confidence. You’ll also be invited to club shoots and social events. Participation is entirely optional, but many find it a fun way to measure progress and connect with other members.

Can disabled individuals take part in archery at the club?

Absolutely — we are an inclusive club and welcome archers of all abilities.
We offer support to help disabled members participate fully, whether through accessible facilities, tailored coaching, or modified equipment. Please let us know your needs when applying, and we’ll ensure everything is in place for a safe and enjoyable experience.

Can families or multiple members from the same household join together?

Yes, our membership costs are already subsidised and highly competitive.
We love seeing families shooting together, and to enable this, there is a discount offered when more than one young person under 18 from the same family joins the club. This is twenty percent for the second, third child etc.

What if I have a medical condition — can I still participate?

In most cases, yes — many medical conditions are compatible with archery.
We ask that you disclose any relevant medical information on your membership form. This allows us to support you appropriately, whether through modified equipment, session pacing, or first aid awareness. If in doubt, feel free to contact us confidentially to discuss your situation. This is vital for your safety and the other members.
